The Ruins

I am weary. And I am alone. They are all gone now. It was an age ago that our people succumbed. Succumbed to the rot, the chaos, the nameless evil ever advancing. Creeping and crawling and feeding.
This Elven stronghold is no longer. This once proud, majestic castle is just a crumbling shell now. The magic - OUR magic - weakens like the last beautiful rays of the setting sun. How fitting a metaphor - it is the Sunstone alone that keeps the Void at bay.
I swore an oath. I swore that I would spend my remaining decades, my remaining centuries if the Gods will it, to maintain the Sunstone. I fear it will be in vain. But I will continue to fight as my oath demands, and toil in my laboratory to replenish the Sunstone's energy until I simply cannot continue.
Crunching. Slurping. Howling. Gods! The Gods have no mercy after all. Now I must sleep.
